In December 2004, an earthquake off the coast of Sumatra and the ensuing tsunami struck the countries bordering the Indian Ocean with devastating fury. Save the Children, which has been present in the area for decades, has intervened from the beginning to help those communities overwhelmed by a huge disaster that has claimed more than 200,000 lives. This report describes what Save the Children has done during 2005, tells the story of children and their families one year after the tsunami and highlights the major challenges that the Organization faced in the months and years that followed.
