Obiettivi del Millennio: ancora molta strada da fare e poco tempo per raggiungerli

Ogni giorno circa 30.000 bambini muoiono per cause che possono essere prevenute. Nel 2000 il mondo ha preso atto del fatto che il divario tra i paesi industrializzati e quelli in via di sviluppo si stava ampliando. Le Nazioni Unite hanno proposto una soluzione: gli Obiettivi di Sviluppo del Millennio (Millennium Development Goals - MDG), un quadro di riferimento per ottenere un cambiamento reale e tangibile. Dalla loro definizione, gli MDG sono stati gli indicatori più efficaci per valutare il reale miglioramento della vita delle persone. Every day, about 30,000 children die from preventable causes. In 2000, the world took note of the fact that the gap between industrialized and developing countries was widening. The United Nations has proposed a solution: the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), a framework for achieving real and tangible change. Since their definition, the MDGs have been the most effective indicators for assessing the real improvement in people's lives. The MDGs have been a catalyst for engaging in debates on poverty at numerous summits and high-level meetings, and for providing answers to developing countries. World leaders agreed on the Millennium Development Goals and agreed to increase funding in order to achieve them. However, despite the commitments made, the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals is not guaranteed. This briefing paper presents an analysis of the progress made towards achieving the MDGs that have the greatest impact on the lives of children around the world.
