In viaggio verso quale futuro?

Secondo stime ufficiali, i minori stranieri non accompagnati presenti in Italia (al 31 marzo 2006) sono 6.358. Un numero sicuramente inferiore alla realtà, poiché molti dei minori non entrano in contatto con i servizi sociali e le autorità territoriali. Dovrebbero avere quelle tutele e diritti che la Convenzione Onu sui Diritti dell’Infanzia e dell’Adolescenza e che le leggi nazionali prevedono. Di fatto il percorso d’integrazione è difficile, a volte fallisce. I minori stranieri non accompagnati rappresentano, al momento, una delle categorie più vulnerabili, a rischio di sfruttamento e di coinvolgimento in attività criminali nel nostro Paese, quali attività illegali, accattonaggio, prostituzione.

According to official estimates, there are 6,358 unaccompanied foreign minors in Italy (as of March 31, 2006). This number is certainly lower than the reality, as many of the minors do not come into contact with social services and local authorities. They should have the protections and rights that the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and national laws provide. In fact, the path to integration is difficult, sometimes it fails. Unaccompanied foreign minors currently represent one of the most vulnerable categories, at risk of exploitation and involvement in criminal activities in our country, such as illegal activities, begging, prostitution.
