Accoglienza e tutela dei diritti dei minori nel centro di Lampedusa

Save the Children Italia, nell’ambito del progetto Praesidium III, in convenzione con il Ministero dell’Interno e in partenariato con l’United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), l’International Organization for Migration (IOM) e la Croce Rossa Italiana (CRI), ha svolto, all’interno delle proprie attività progettuali a partire dal mese di maggio 2008, un monitoraggio sulla conformità delle condizioni e delle procedure di accoglienza dei minori nel Centro di soccorso e prima accoglienza di Lampedusa agli standard previsti dalla normativa nazionale e internazionale in materia. Secondo quanto previsto dalla Convenzione con il Ministero dell’Interno, Save the Children ha il mandato di “monitorare che le procedure e gli standard di accoglienza dei minori non accompagnati e dei nuclei familiari con minori a carico nel centro di Lampedusa siano conformi agli standard internazionali”, “contribuire allo sviluppo di una procedura per l’accertamento dell’età fondata sul rispetto dei diritti dei minori e al monitoraggio della sua effettiva ed efficace applicazione”, nonché “verificare che il percorso dei minori stranieri dal loro arrivo in frontiera alle strutture di accoglienza in Sicilia, avvenga nel pieno rispetto dei loro diritti”.

Save the Children Italy, as part of the Praesidium III project, in agreement with the Ministry of the Interior and in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Italian Red Cross (CRI), has monitored, as part of its project activities since May 2008, the compliance of the conditions and procedures for the reception of minors in the Lampedusa Rescue and First Reception Centre with the standards set by national and international legislation on the subject.  According to the provisions of the Agreement with the Ministry of the Interior, Save the Children has the mandate to "monitor that the procedures and standards for the reception of unaccompanied minors and families with dependent minors in the Lampedusa centre comply with international standards", to "contribute to the development of a procedure for the assessment of age based on respect for the rights of minors and to the monitoring of its effective and effective application", as well as "to verify that the path of foreign minors from their arrival at the border to the reception facilities in Sicily takes place in full respect of their rights".
